Woman Charged in PS House Crash

A 27-year-old woman who allegedly drove a pickup truck into a Palm Springs home, injuring a woman inside, then fleeing, was charged Wednesday with felony hit and run causing an injury and misdemeanor resisting a peace officer.

Minica Starr Murrell of Palm Springs was arrested  at Bon Air Drive and Corazon Avenue, about a half-hour after Sunday's roughly 2:10 p.m. in the 300 block of Rosa Parks Drive.   Murrell, locked up on $75,000 bail, may be arraigned after 1:30 p.m. today at the Larson Justice Center in Indio.   Palm Springs police Sgt. Harvey Reed said a GMC pickup slammed into the front of the home, and a 50-year-old woman suffered leg and shoulder injuries.

Murrell fled but officers found her nearby, Reed said.

"As officers approached the pickup, the driver ran from the vehicle. Officers chased the driver on foot across several streets and arrested her in the backyard of a nearby residence," the sergeant said.

She was "driving at an unsafe speed and made an unsafe turn prior to the collision," but alcohol and drugs were not factors, Reed said.
