Woman Hospitalized in La Quinta DUI Crash

Sheriff's investigators say the 23-year-old was hospitalized with head injuries following the crash early Monday morning.

A Thermal woman was hospitalized Monday with head injuries after police allege she was driving while under the influence and crashed into a palm tree.

According to Sheriff's Sergeant Randy Vasquez, 23-year-old Beatriz Garcia crashed at Avenue 52, near Washington Street, around 4:30 a.m. Monday.

"During the investigation, it was determined that Garcia showed signs of driving while impaired with alcohol and / or drugs," Vasquez said.

She had been traveling west on Avenue 52, when she apparently veered off the street and hit a palm tree, he reported.

"She was arrested, but later released due to her injuries," he said, adding that she was transported to the hospital with "moderate" head injuries.

According to the sergeant, DUI charges will be filed with the district attorney's office.
