Bill to Reopen Bump and Grind Unveiled

Assembly Bill 880 could reopen the Upper bump and Grind to hikers, over objections from the Department of Fish and Game.

Assemblyman Brian Nestande, R-Palm Desert, announced a bill that would re-open the upper Bump and Grind Trail to hikers.

On Saturday, Nestande and Assemblyman Manuel Perez. D-Coachella, unveiled Assembly Bill 880 to a crowd of hikers in Palm Desert.  The bill would require the Fish and Game Department to remove the locks on a gate that currently blocks access to the upper portion of the popular hiking trail.

“This legislation is in response to public outcry,” Nestande said.

If approved, the bill would then go to Governor Jerry Brown for final approval and to be signed into law.
