Bono Mack Office Reacts to FEC Statements
Staffer says anyone who runs against Mary Bono Mack gets "left wing celebrity support", in light of latest fundraising totals being released.
The political director for Mary Bono Mack says Hollywood is part of the reason that challenger Raul Ruiz brought in a higher fundraising total than the seven-term congresswoman.
“Mary’s opponents have always received significant left wing celebrity support,” said Mark Troast of the Mary Bono Mack campaign. “Sean Penn and Nancy Pelosi are more proof of that.”
Penn donated $5,000 to the Ruiz campaign, while Nancy Pelosi for Congress added another $2,500.

According to Federal Election Commission , Ruiz raised $271,000 in the past three months. Bono Mack drew in $258,000 in support.
The totals didn’t surprise Ruiz, who is running a grassroots campaign to unseat in incumbent.

“This quarter, we saw an outpouring of support for the campaign;" the candidate said in a statement. "We are going to have the resources to win.”
The 36th District is predicted to be one of the most highly contested districts of the November elections.
