Bono Mack's Jobs Plan Takes Aim At Manufacturing, Regulations

Rep. Mary Bono Mack, R-Palm Springs, is working across both sides of the political aisle to create jobs in manufacturing.

Bono Mack, who is the chairperson of the House subcommittee on Commerce, Manufacturing and Trade, said members of the subcommittee stepped forward from both sides about the issue.

"I asked them to work together on a bipartisan basis and put their best ideas forward to address manufacturing," Bono Mack said late Wednesday evening.

While the congresswoman said she is waiting to see what subcommittee members put together, she has some ideas about what she hopes the legislation includes.

"We need to streamline what currently exists. It’s really basic. We need to do more of what is right and what is working. We need to see what is not working and get rid of it," she said.

Bono Mack said a recent local example of manufacturing is the recent announcement of Tala Enterprises in Thousand Palms, which is expected to create 400 jobs in the Coachella Valley over the next five years.

The Republican wants to streamline regulations for more than just manufacturing. She's proposed the auditing of existing and pending regulations to identify and address those that hinder or may hinder U.S. economic growth.

"The government has put way too many impediments in the way of creating jobs," she said. "That is why we’ve lost competiveness with the rest of the world."
