Bump and Grind Gets Facebook Page
Hikers who question the closure hope the social media network will help put pressure on state officials to reopen the upper part of the popular trail.
An effort to reopen the upper Bump and Grind Trail -- which was as part of an effort to protect the endangered Peninsular bighorn sheep -- has spread to Facebook.
Hikers who oppose the closure started up a page called "Save the Bump & Grind!" on Thursday.
Blaine Carian, a Bermuda Dunes resident who opposes the closure, said he hopes other hikers will use it to organize events, share information and post photos.

"We have a contact list that is searchable by zip code to find elected officials that can help, because the issue is not confined to a specific city or political district as residents from every corner of the valley use the trail," Carian said.
A gate closes the trail as it crosses into the protected Magnesia Spring and Carrizo Canyon Ecological Preserve.

The Department of Fish and Game has said the closure is needed to protect a sensitive lambing area for the Peninsular bighorn sheep.
Any hikers that are caught in the area could face a misdemeanor, fines and up to a year in jail, according to the DFG.
