Caltrans Official to Take Part in Forum on Massive I-10 Traffic Jam

Caltrans District 8 Director Ray Wolfe is expected to provide an update on the investigation into a massive traffic backup on Interstate 10 that stretched from Banning to Palm Springs, trapping thousands of motorists for hours.

Caltrans District 8 Director Ray Wolfe will be among the participants in a public forum put on by two Coachella Valley lawmakers next month about a monster traffic jam that spanned from Banning to Palm Springs.

Assemblymen Brian Nestande, R-Palm Desert, and Manuel Perez, D-Coachella, will host host the Thursday, March 8 forum from 5 to 6:30 p.m. at the Rancho Mirage Public Library.

The forum, which will also include representatives from the California Highway Patrol, will focus on the massive traffic jam caused by a breakdown at a local concrete plant, which spurred unannounced lane closures in Banning.

The traffic jam, which caught up to 19,000 vehicles at one time, .

Wolfe, who has already apologized for the unplanned delays, will be "addressing the public on the current investigation and what measures are being taken to ensure this type of situation does not occur in the future on any state highways in Riverside and San Bernardino area," according to a news release.

To RSVP or for more information, please contact Assemblyman Nestande's Palm Desert office at (760) 674-0164.

It is my belief that those who decide when to improve streets hold a meeting and pick the busiest time of day, at the busiest time of year to break up the streets and create traffic nightmares. It's something they derive pleasure from doing!!!!!

5 to 6:30!! If the rep from Cal Trans gets 10 minutes, and each of the elected reps get 10 minutes, and it says representatives from the Highway Patrol (meaning more than on) will attend and they each get, 10 minutes, that leaves approx. 40 minutes for the public input. Should there be a big turnout (I'm betting there will be) how many people from the community will be able to express their concerns? Most people who want to attend will also probably have to leave work early, and heaven forbid there be a traffic backup. More truly "realistic" thinking on somebody's part!

You';re welcome, Renee but I don't really expect thanks for my contributions to the classroom. IRead More wasn't going to stand by and see kids not have the basic things they needed to get through the class and most teachers are of the same mind :) Sadly, school budgets have never covered all the needs in classrooms.
