Assemblymember Nestande Says: Killer Budget Cuts Don’t Go Far Enough: Community Press Conference in front of Palm Desert District Office

 - Community Groups Rally Against Budget Cuts -

PALM DESERT, CA -- On Wednesday June 27th at noon, dozens of community members and constituents will hold a press conference in response to Assemblymember Nestande’s email and actions regarding the recent legislative budget deal. Constituents will be gathering at 73710 Fred Waring Drive Palm Desert, CA 92660 and march in front of his office.

In addition to voting party line with fellow Republican legislators who made no effort whatsoever to come up with real solutions address the $15 billion dollar deficit, Assemblymember Nestande sent a scathing email to his constituents on June 15th, the legislative constitutional deadline for a budget proposal. This email said that the nearly $8 billion dollars of cuts to core health and human service programs that serve the neediest and most vulnerable in our state were not enough. Instead, he called for even further systemic and structural cuts that would essentially dismantle the infrastructure of the public safety net. Furthermore, this email directly targets seniors, people with disabilities, poor children and families by saying that the devastating cuts to programs that serve them should be cut even more.

Thus community members will be rallying outside of his office to tell him that he must be accountable for his rhetoric. They will march to Assemblymember Nestande’s office and deliver a formal request for a meeting and a pledge to “Stop Supporting Killer Cuts”.
