SENATOR EMMERSON CO-HOSTS PUBLIC SAFETY REALIGNMENT FORUM

Senator Bill Emmerson (R – Hemet) will co-host a Public Safety Realignment Forum with Assemblyman Brian Nestande (R-Palm Desert), District Attorney Paul Zellerbach, Sheriff Stan Sniff, Chief Probation Officer Alan Crogan, and other local law enforcement officials on Monday, November 28th in Palm Desert to discuss the impacts of realignment on local law enforcement and Riverside County residents.

The forum, beginning at 3:30 p.m. and concluding at 5:00 p.m., will be held at Palm Desert City Hall located at 73510 Fred Waring Drive in Palm Desert.  All are welcome and there is no cost to attend this event.

“For better or worse, the enactment of realignment is a major policy change for California’s criminal justice system,” Senator Emmerson said.  “I encourage Riverside County residents to attend this forum and learn how realignment will affect our community.”

Under the realignment plan, the responsibility of incarcerating and rehabilitating certain criminal offenders shifted from the state to the counties.  This new policy went into effect on October 1, 2011.
