Four Marines Killed at Camp Pendleton

Four Marines were killed Wednesday at Camp Pendleton during a maintenance operation at Zulu Impact Area, an artillery and bombing range near the center of the north San Diego County military base, USMC officials said.

The incident occurred about 11 a.m. Nov. 13, according to the Marine Corps Base Camp Pendleton Public Affairs Office.

"We offer our heartfelt prayers and condolences to the families of the Marines lost today in this tragic accident," said Brig. Gen. John W. Bullard, Commanding General, Marine Corps Installations West - Marine Corps Base Camp Pendleton. "Our first priority is to provide the families with the support they need during this difficult time."

The identities of the deceased Marines were not released, pending next of kin notification. The cause of the accident was being investigated.
