Highway 111 to Remain Open Tomorrow

Caltrans postpones plan to close portions of Highway 111 for upgrades until after the weekend.

Caltrans is postponing tomorrow's scheduled lane closures on Highway 111 in Palm Springs until after the weekend, a city spokeswoman said today.

Alternating lanes of Highway 111 were slated to be closed between
Broadmoor Drive and Tramway Road while crews installed a vehicle detection
system, according to Caltrans. The Palm Springs Public Works Department asked Caltrans to postpone the work, city spokeswoman Amy Blaisdell said. No new date has been set.

"With thousands of visitors in town this weekend for the White Party,
we appreciate Caltrans' cooperation in agreeing to postpone these closures,''
said David Barakian, the city's director of public works and engineering.
The work is part of a $2 million project to install a wireless vehicle
detection system on highways throughout Riverside and San Bernardino counties, according to Caltrans.
