Interstate 10 Faces Overnight Closures from Palm Springs to Banning

CalTrans plans overnight work in effort to not snarl traffic in and out of the valley

Alternating lanes and ramps on a stretch of Interstate 10 between Beaumont and Palm Springs will be closed nightly for pavement work, starting Sunday, a Caltrans spokeswoman said today.

The work, which is scheduled to last until Tuesday, will close alternating lanes and ramps in both directions between Pennsylvania Avenue and Highway 111 nightly, according to Caltrans.

The closure schedule -- which will be in effect from Sunday night to
Monday morning, and Monday night to Tuesday morning -- is as follows:

-- 7:00 p.m. to 6:00 a.m. the following morning, alternating lanes 1 through 4 on eastbound I-10 between Pennsylvania and Hargrave Street;
-- 8:00 p.m. to 7:00 a.m. the next morning, alternating lanes 1 through 4 on
westbound I-10 between Highway 111 and Pennsylvania;
-- 8:00 p.m. to 7:00 a.m. the next morning, alternating onramp and offramp closures on westbound I-10 between Highway 111 and Pennsylvania.
-- 7:00 p.m. to 6:00 a.m. the following morning, alternating onramp and offramp closures on eastbound I-10 between Pennsylvania and Hargrave.

In February, a paving miscue by Caltrans resulted in a huge Sunday
traffic jam on westbound I-10 between Palm Springs and Banning. The agency
apologized and vowed it would not happen again.
