Assemblymen Brian Nestande, R-Palm Desert, and Manuel Pérez,D-Coachella, are expected to announce legislation that could resolve the closure of the upper loop of the Bump and Grind Trail this Saturday.
A press conference is set for 10:30 a.m. at the trail head in Palm Desert, off Painter's Path.
The California Department of Fish and Game installed a gate to enforce the closure of the upper half-mile of the trail in June 2011.
The closure aimed to protect the endangered Peninsular bighorn sheep.
Also known as the "Mirage Trail," the Bump and Grind is located in the 1,280-acre Magnesia Falls Wildlife Preserve in the mountains above Palm Desert and Rancho Mirage.
Hundreds hikers use the trail each week, and voted it as the for the best trail in Palm Desert.
