Local Students To Shadow County Leaders

"I look forward to showing a student how local government impacts our daily life in the Coachella Valley," Supervisor John Benoit said.

High school students from the Coachella Valley will shadow Supervisor John J. Benoit, Assessor-County Clerk-Recorder Larry Ward, Superior Court Judge John G. Evans and 29 other county employees during the ninth annual Fourth District Youth in Government Day.

Ward will make opening remarks at 8:30 a.m. on Wednesday as the students meet their mentors in Room 402 of the Workforce Development Center in Indio, 44-199 Monroe St.

“This program offers a great opportunity for high school students to get a glimpse into the rewarding career choices in public service,” said Supervisor John J. Benoit. “I look forward to showing a student how local government impacts our daily life in the Coachella Valley.”

Students will geet to observe Benoit attend an 8 a.m. meeting of the Coachella Valley Enterprise Zone Authority and a noon meeting of the SunLine Transit Agency Board of Directors.

Participating county departments include: CAL FIRE, the Sheriff’s Department, the District Attorney’s Office, the Law Offices of the Public Defender, Code Enforcement, the Community Action Partnership of Riverside County, Economic Development Agency, Environmental Health, Human Resources, the Office on Aging and Public Social Services.

Supervisor John J. Benoit represents the Fourth District, which includes the cities of Palm Desert, Indian Wells, La Quinta, Indio and Coachella.
