Marines Will Furlough 3,581 Civilian Employees in Region

Marine Corps officials say civilian furloughs will impact 1,282 employees at the Marine Air Ground Task Force Combat Center outside Twentynine Palms.

Because of the federal government shutdown, the Marine Corps will furlough 3,581 civilian employees in Southern California and Arizona, including 1,282 at the Marine Air Ground Task Force Combat Center outside Twentynine Palms, according to the corps.

A Marine Corps statement said the only civilian employees remaining on the job are those who are required to provide crucial services that protect life, safety and property, provide essential range, training and air operations, or provide necessary utility services.

Civilians who are not required will receive their official notices Tuesday and be placed on emergency furlough. Civilian employees will be allowed 3-4 hours Tuesday to turn on out-of-office email settings, set voicemails, and secure their work space.
