Latest Fundraising Figures Announced in Congressional Race

Incumbent raises $500,000, while challenger pulls $371,000 in 2nd quarter

Congresswoman Mary Bono Mack (R-Palm Springs) raised $501,000 for her re-election campaign in the second filing quarter of 2012.  Her challenger, Dr. Raul Ruiz (D-Coachella), raised $371,000 over the same period. The figures for both sides were announced today, following the deadlines for filing finance papers with the Federal Election Commission.

Ruiz has raised over $845,000 since the race began and has nearly $625,000 cash in hand at the end of the second quarter.  Bono Mack has over $848,000 on hand and raised nearly $1.5 million in her bid be re-elected to the congressional seat in what will become California's 36th district.

Marc Troast, Political Director for the Mary Bono Mack Committee, said via email, “In addition to Congresswoman Bono Mack’s resounding victory in the primary election, her fundraising totals confirm an overwhelming support for her common sense, independent-minded approach to serving the people she has the honor of representing.  Congresswoman Bono Mack is humbled and grateful for the generous support she has received while will enable us to run an aggressive campaign focused on policies that will help ensure an America with greater freedom and prosperity for all.”

“Our Momentum keeps growing,” said Ruiz, an emergency room physician.  “Our supporters are sending a clear message that they are sick and tired of this broken Congress and sick and tired of politician like Mary bono Mack, who stand up for special interests instead of he middle class.   As an ER doctor, I’ve seen just how dangerous the dysfunction in Washington had become for hard-working Americans.  Thousands of people have stepped forward to help our race and let Washington know they are ready for real solutions, and I am honored to have their support.”
