Words are flying between local Congressional candidates and their camps.
After learning that liberal activist Sean Penn, a strong supporter of communist dictator Hugo Chavez, is hosting an event for Raul Ruiz (D-Coachella), Marc Troast, Political Director for Congresswoman Mary Bono Mack (R-Palm Springs) released the following statement:
"Raul, you took $5,000 from liberal activist Sean Penn who was in Venezuela on Sunday campaigning for communist dictator Hugo Chavez. Hugo Chavez' anti-Americanism makes him one of the world's most despicable characters. You should immediately return Sean Penn's money and explain to the people of our district your position on Hugo Chavez' communist regime so we all know how far to the left you really are."
Ruiz' Campaign Manager, Kyle Layman, said in repsonse, "This is precisely the kind of guilt-by-association negative politics that Mary Bono Mack has become so adept at. People are tired of career politicians who care more about winning at all costs than actually getting things done."
Both candidates are currently running for election in California's 36th Congressional District.
