Mary Bono Mack Remarks on 'Obamacare' Repeal

Local Congresswoman says health care can be made "simpler, smarter"

Following today's 244-185 vote by he House of Representatives to repeal the Affordable Health Care Act, Congresswoman Mary Bono Mack (R-Palm Springs) issued the following statement via email:

“Poll after poll shows the same result:  A majority of Americans want President Obama’s healthcare law repealed.  Period.   Obamacare is too costly, imposes on the of the largest tax increases in history – primarily on the middle class – and is morally wrong, because it will eventually lead to a government takeover of our healthcare system.  That’s not what Americans want.

“We need a simpler, smarter healthcare plan which makes certain patients are not denied insurance because of pre-existing conditions; children can remain on their parents’ insurance policy until they are 26 years old; and seniors can continue to get the help they need paying for expensive prescription drugs.  We can do all these things without resorting to government dictated healthcare that will cost $1.8 trillion and put 800,000 Americans out of work.”

A statement from Bono Mack's challenger, Dr. Raul Ruiz (D-Coachella) is here.

Mary Mack is actually being misleading (imagine that) with her comment about majorities want "obamacare" repealed. Truth is those numbers include those who want ot see the law go further than it did. But more importantly when asked about the individual components of the law people do SUPPORT it. Mack today voted to remove the provision which forces insurance companies to cover those with pre existing conditions. She voted voted remove those children under 26 from being covered by their parents helath insurance thereby costing the middle class thousands of dollars. SHe voted to take away the $250 that seniors receive to cover the donuthole coverage in the perscription D plan. This is on top of her voting earlier this year for the GOP budget which removed the home mortgage deduction from federal income taxes, removed the fdeduction for state income taxes, turned Medicare into a voucher system, and handed over Social Security over to Wall Street bankers. Mary Mack dare says she is looking out for the middle class...that is a joke!

At least 60% of Americans want it repealed, according to dozens of polls I've seen. Mary represented the majority of her constituents with her vote. Yes, there are a few good parts in the Act, but they could be included in a better, and shorter, reform. I wonder if you're aware of all the hidden taxes in the current one which have nothing to do with health care or health insurance. One example is a 3.8% tax upon the sale of your home.

It's a common practice in Congress that to get ANY bill passed, it's agreed to tack on all kinds of crazy things that have nothing to do with that bill just to get enough signatures and backing. Hence, that 3.8% tax. Things like that drive me nuts because few people ever hear about the things that become law without being challenged or debated or voted on! Then we get stuck with idiotic things that no one wants.

The fact is that time spent on repealing AHCA in Congress is simply a big waste at this point. It will never be repealed in the Senate. And even if it was, it is guaranteed to be vetoed by the Executive branch. This is just a bunch of showboating by Republicans who have nothing else to offer, or do not dare to offer, as to not make their extreme right-wing constituents angry thus withdrawing their votes. The Congressional members that continue to participate in this ridiculous charade are ironically wasting time and MONEY (hear that, Floridian Bono-Mack?) ,ironically, on the taxpayers dime in hopes this will be remembered when they're up for election. It's pandering at its most disgusting. Speak up, Bono-Mack!
