UPDATE: Mary Bono Mack Speaks on Affordable Healthcare Law

Local congresswoman "disappointed" by today's Supreme Court decision.

This story last updated at 11:15 a.m.

Local congresswoman Mary Bono Mack (R-Palm Springs) has issued strong remarks against today's upholding the Affordable Health Care Act.

The congresswoman said via a release:

"The Supreme Court’s disappointing decision is a huge setback for health care in America and confirms that Obamacare is the largest tax increase in American history. Clearly, some – if not all – of Obamacare should have been thrown out on constitutional grounds. The President’s 1,000 page, $1 trillion boondoggle is already hurting our economy by driving up health care costs for Americans and making it extremely difficult for small businesses to create new jobs. Obamacare is a confusing, complicated and costly mess which will eventually lead to Washington bureaucrats making health care decisions instead of patients and their doctors. It’s terrible policy.

“There are much better ways to ensure that no one can be denied coverage because of a pre-existing medical condition, children can remain on their parents’ insurance plan until they’re 26 years old, and seniors will continue to get the help they need paying for expensive prescription drugs without resorting to government-dictated health care. We need to scrap Obamacare immediately and start over.”

Just before 11:00 a.m, Congresswoman Bono Mack posted on twitter, "Very disappointing SCOTUS decision. We need to repeal Obamacare immediately."

Earlier this week, the congresswoman showed her disapproval by tweeting, "The Supreme Court will issue its ruling on ObamaCare on Thursday. This onerous law must be stopped. ObamaCare is wrong for America."

Rep. Bono Mack, clearly, the Supreme Court disagrees with you. Obamacare is far, far from what is needed to provide full health care to all Americans, but, if you and your party had offered a concrete alternative that provided the benefits that you describe, you didn't do a very good job of selling it to the people. This is one of those cases where something is better than nothing. I'am keeping an open mind and will listen when the Republicans offer a workable alternative. But it must assure that ALL Americans get solid health coverage at the lowest possible cost. The balls in your court.

Obama lied when he said the ACA is not a tax. Roberts ruled that it IS a tax. He may have done us (who oppose the bill) a favor. It will have to be punted back to Congress. It is the legislative branch which votes on taxes, not the Supreme Court.

It's an Act not a Bill - your knowledge of how legislation works is faulty. It was voted on and passed by Congress.

It was a Senate bill before it became an Act.
