Bono Mack: AQMD Needs Transparency on Grants

Congresswoman joins calls for more transparency in $53m grant process

Congresswoman Mary Bono Mack (R-Palm Springs) has joined the voices calling on the Air Quality Management District to release info on who has applied for the $53 million in grant funds coming to the desert.

The funds are part of an environmental offset being paid by owners of the Sentinel III power plant being built north of Palm Springs. Those monies will be distributed to the community via grants for "green" projects.

Those competing for the grant funds include the Coachella Valley Association of Governments for the proposed , and Desert Sands Unified School District for replacing buses with more environmentally friendly models among other projects.
