Nestande Moves 3 bills to Senate on Bipartisan Votes

The following is a news release from the office of Brian Nestande:

Three of Assemblyman Brian Nestande’s bills passed out of the Assembly Thursday.

AB 2312, which would implement a regional metal theft alert system, passed on a bipartisan vote and now moves onto the Senate. This is one of two bills Nestande has authored this year to combat growing metal thefts in the Inland Empire. Under the bill, scrap metal recycling centers must now subscribe to a metal theft alert system which will provide alerts on all reported metal thefts within 100 miles of their location. Using an alert system will reduce the chances of a recycling center unintentionally purchasing stolen goods and providing easy money for metal thieves.

AB 2609 which would allow Homebrewer clubs to hold their annual festivals in California is also now headed to the Senate after receiving a unanimous vote. A change in law enacted last year had effectively blocked future Homebrewer festivals from occurring in California. This year’s festival was canceled due to the change in the law, but AB 2609 if passed, will secure the right for festivals to continue in the future.

AB 2467 also passed on a bipartisan vote and would require Cal Recycle to continue its incentives for plastic bottle recyclers. Recently, Cal Recycle had proposed making emergency changes to the program but this would not allow companies who had built their business models on the incentive payments enough time to adjust. AB 2467 would ensure they are given time to adjust to changes Cal Recycle makes in the incentive program.
