Nestande to Attend Guide Dogs of the Desert Grad Ceremony in Cathedral City

Assemblyman Brian Nestande, R-Palm Desert, plans to attend the Guide Dogs of the Desert graduation ceremony in Cathedral City on Sunday Oct. 20, his staff announced Thursday.

Nestande intends to present a resolution to honor recent graduates and recognize National Service Dog Month, his staff said.

"For nearly a century, guide dogs have been recognized around the world as an important tool for helping the blind and visually impaired make their way in the world with greater ease, confidence, and safety," Nestande's staff said.

"California has long recognized the need to promote high standards in the training of these animals, and in 1948 created the State Board of Guide Dogs for the Blind to license schools that teach these vital skills," Nestande's staff said. "California's three licensed schools now graduate about 400 dog teams each year."

The ceremony is scheduled 2 p.m. to 3 p.m. Sunday Oct. 20 at Date Palm Country Club in the main clubhouse, 36200 Date Palm Drive, Cathedral City.
