Assemblyman Brian Nestande, R-Palm Desert, plans to attend the Guide Dogs of the Desert graduation ceremony in Cathedral City on Sunday Oct. 20, his staff announced Thursday.
Nestande intends to present a resolution to honor recent graduates and recognize
National Service Dog Month, his staff said.
"For nearly a century, guide dogs have been
recognized around the world as an important tool for helping the blind
and visually impaired make their way in the world with greater ease,
confidence, and safety," Nestande's staff said.
has long recognized the need to promote high standards in the training
of these animals, and in 1948 created the State Board of Guide Dogs for

The ceremony is scheduled 2 p.m. to 3 p.m. Sunday Oct. 20 at Date Palm Country Club in the main clubhouse, 36200 Date Palm Drive, Cathedral City.
