Nestande to Recognize Eisenhower Medical Center at 7th Annual Prostate Cancer Symposium Series

Assemblyman Brian Nestande, R-Palm Desert, plans to recognize Eisenhower Medical Center officials on Tuesday Sept. 17 for their Prostate Cancer Symposium series at George and Julia Argyros Health Center in Rancho Mirage.

September is National Prostate Cancer Awareness Month.

Eisenhower Medical Center is hosting the series of symposiums on prostate cancer with focuses on prevention, diagnosis and treatment, Nestande's staff said in an announcement Monday. The symposiums are free to the public and are presented to raise public awareness of the disease.

Prostate cancer is the second most commonly diagnosed cancer and the second leading cause of cancer deaths, Nestande's staff said.

"During National Prostate Cancer Awareness Month, we remember those lost to prostate cancer, offer our support to patients and their families, and highlight our commitment to better prevention, detection and treatment methods," Nestande's staff said.

Prevention and treatment options can help lower statistical risk and help patients recover quicker and better, said Alison Mayer Sachs, Eisenhower's director of Community Outreach.

"I applaud Eisenhower Medical Center's Arnold Palmer Cancer Symposium series for their commitment to public awareness and treatment of this disease," Nestande said. "The concept of this sort of presentation demonstrates that Eisenhower Medical Center cares about its community and the people who support it."

Eisenhower's George and Julia Argyros Health Center is at 45280 Seeley Drive, La Quinta.

Nestande's 42nd Assembly District includes the communities of Banning, Beaumont, Cabazon, Calimesa, Cherry Valley, Hemet, Indian Wells, La Quinta, Morongo Valley, Palm Desert, Rancho Mirage, Palm Springs, San Jacinto, Twentynine Palms, Yucaipa and, Yucca Valley.
