Campaign staff for State Assemblyman Brian Nestande, R-Palm Desert, on Friday touted endorsements from other California Republicans for Nestande's quest to unseat Congressman Raul Ruiz, D-Palm Desert, in the 36th District.

Here's the full statement from Nestande's campaign:

Momentum continues to build for Brian Nestande’s race for Congress against liberal Raul Ruiz with the announcement of endorsements from some of the most influential and effective members of Congress.

An overwhelming majority of the California Republican delegation joins Congressman Kevin McCarthy, Majority Whip and #3 ranking Republican in Congress and Congressman Darrell Issa, chairman of the House Oversight & Government Reform Committee in endorsing Brian Nestande for Congress.

“Brian will stand with me in Congress in our fight to protect the taxpayers and relieve the stranglehold that the Federal government has placed on small business owners who provide the jobs we need for our families.

It is critical that we return this Congressional District to Republicans because Democrats need to win a majority in Congress to further the Obama agenda, and we cannot let that happen.” – Rep. Kevin McCarthy

“Brian is the type of partner I want in Washington working with me to fight the big-government waste.” – Rep. Darrell Issa

U.S. Rep. Kevin McCarthy
, House Majority Whip, also served as Assembly Republican Leader and is currently the 3rd ranking member of the House Republican Leadership, who has led the fight against Obamacare.

U.S. Rep. Darrell Issa
, chairman of the House Oversight & Government Reform Committee, has been a leader in learning what happened at the U.S. Embassy in Benghazi, Libya, as well as the notorious “Fast & Furious” program, in which the U.S. government helped smuggle assault weapons to Mexican drug lords.

U.S. Rep. Ed Royce
, chairman of the House Foreign Affairs Committee, is one of the most important congressional leaders in shaping   U.S. foreign policy.  He continues to ask tough questions about Benghazi and Syria.

U.S. Rep. Ken Calvert
is chairman of the California Republican Congressional Delegation and serves on the Budget Committee and the Appropriations Committee, with positions on subcommittees very important to Riverside County, including Defense, Interior and the Environment, and Energy and Water.

U.S. Rep. Howard “Buck” McKeon
, is Chairman of the House Committee on Armed Services and serves on the House Committee on Education and the Workforce

Also endorsing Brian Nestande for Congress…

U.S. Rep. Jeff Denham
, a second-term member who won one of the toughest seats in California.  Rep. Denham on the House Transportation & Infrastructure, Agriculture, and Veterans’ Affairs Committees.

U.S. Rep. Paul Cook
, a first-term member and decorated Vietnam War veteran.   Cook serves on the House Armed Services, Foreign Affairs, and Veterans’ Affairs Committees.

U.S. Rep. Duncan Hunter
, a Marine combat veteran of the wars in Iraq and Afghanistan. Hunter serves on the House Armed Services, Transportation & Infrastructure, and Education & Workforce Committees

U.S. Rep. Gary Miller
, is Vice Chairman of the Financial Services Committee and serves on the Transportation & Infrastructure Committee

U.S. Rep. Devin Nunes
, serves on the Committee on Ways and Means and Permanent Select Committee on Intelligence.

U.S. Rep. David Valadao
, serves on the House Committee on Appropriations

“I am proud to count these leaders as my supporters,” said Nestande.  “No delegation in Congress has more clout than California’s and I look forward to joining them so we can work together to find common-sense solutions to the challenges facing Californians.  My agenda: Repeal Obamacare and replace it with real health care reform that will, let my constituents keep their doctors, cost our families less, not more, as Obamacare does; reforming taxes and regulations so small businesses can create new jobs and put folks to work; and balance the budget so that our kids and grandkids are not saddled with the burden of today’s out-of-control spending.  That’s why I’m running.”

Ruiz and his staff, asked for their response, designated campaign consultant Roy Behr, who said Friday afternoon in an email:

"It's not surprising that Brian Nestande is being supported by the Republican leaders who were responsible for shutting down the government last year. He has already vowed publicly that he would support their future efforts to create gridlock. But voters want elected officials who put the needs of the Coachella Valley ahead of partisan gridlock. That's why Brian Nestande is unsuited to represent this district."

Nestande currently represents the 42nd Assembly District, which includes Banning, Beaumont, Cabazon, Calimesa, Cherry Valley, Hemet, Indian Wells, La Quinta, Mentone, Morongo Valley, Oak Glen, Palm Desert, Palm Springs, Rancho Mirage, San Jacinto, Twentynine Palms, Yucaipa and Yucca Valley.

Nestande announced his run for the 36th Congressional District in May 2013. Here's the Patch report:

So he has been endorsed by a bunch of Republicans who led the "DO Nothing Congress". Wow! Even Issa who has wasted millions of dollars of taxpayer money on ridiculous witch hunts into non scandals like Benghazi and the IRS. If he needs Nestande in Congress to waste more taxpayer dollars investigating non scandals, then we don't need Nestande in Congress.

100% agreed with the above. We need to ask ourselves, "Why would we go backwards?" This guy is more of the Bush era nothingness......

I fully support Brian Nestande. I've spoken with him personally, have heard him speak, and have read his Agenda (above.) He and his wife are a class act. He hasn't been going around bashing Ruiz--unusual and refreshing in today's political arena. Don Smith, if you think Fast and Furious, Benghazi, the IRS are phony scandals, perhaps you should do some research. Holder is in contempt of Congress for F&F; Hillary "what difference does it make" Clinton stonewalled during the Benghazi hearing before totally losing her temper; it has been proven that Lois Lerner lied during the IRS hearings. Issa is doing the best he possibly can, considering that vital information is being withheld/heavily redacted every step of the way. VITD, the country was in much better shape in so many ways, and we were much safer from terrorists, during the Bush era. IMO, we need Brian Nestande to represent us in the 36th Congressional District.

Karla, major FAIL. Major fail. Your comment is exactly the reason why the California Republican Party continues to be as popular as dog poop right now and fails to continue to win much if any seats in CA State Assembly, State Senate and Congress. Guess what? Brian Nestande voted to increase taxes yet Darrell Issa supports him. Kind of a contraction given all Republicans running for Congress nowadays get the short end of the stick from the GOP base for raising taxes. http://blogs.sacbee.com/capitolalertlatest/2012/08/brian-nestande-steps-down-as-gop-caucus-chair-after-tax-vote.html

Thanks for the link (which, by the way, was written nearly a year and a half ago.) Your comment made it sound like Nestande wanted to raise ALL taxes, when in fact, it was on out-of-state corporations to level the playing field. He voted with the Democrats on this issue because he felt it was best. (I think the word you were searching for is "contradiction," not contraction.) Ruiz voted w/ the Republicans to extend the individual mandate, voting his conscience, too. I respect both men for that.

comment to Don Smith. I'm proud of a ' do nothing congress'. The less that gets done while BO is president the better off we are. Any laws passed by this president are only bound to hurt us in the long run. He could tell the truth if he had to.

Andy. Are you a Billionaire? - or just a huge fan of the Koch brothers? Your rant sounds right out of their playbook. I, for one am MIDDLE CLASS and proud of it! Immigrant grandparents and all. Your bashing of the President (YOUR President too, I might add) does nothing for the debate. "C'mon man!", as they say. The rest of us are quited happy with "BO" and his attempt to tilt the table BACK from the Bush's and the Koch's!
Andy Rotter January 27, 2014 at 01:17 PM
Voice in the desert, How could you be quite happy with a president who does not have this nation's best interest at heart? His socialist programs, overtaxing and over-regulations are the root cause of our current problems.
VoiceInThe Desert January 27, 2014 at 01:44 PM
I am. I disagree with your premise. I don't watch FAUX News and I am truly sorry about your loss to Nadal. Agree to disagree. (I would think you would have been HOWLING about Bush, who, as it clearly shows, had ONLY the interests of America's top 1% at heart) Were you indeed HOWLING about him? Or just the Black guy?
Andy Rotter January 27, 2014 at 01:52 PM
A lot of assumptions coming from you, all of which are wrong. I didn't vote for bush and i don't care what color our president's skin is. Has nothing to do with the fact the he lied about being able to keep your health plan and doctor. And about many more things as well. It is unfortunate that people like you give this liar a pass and then go off half-cocked about bush and the koch brothers. Everything has gotten worse under this failure of a president.
VoiceInThe Desert January 27, 2014 at 01:57 PM
I calls 'em as I sees 'em. And the health plan thing is STRAIGHT from the Rush/Hannity/Beck talking points. NO ASSUMPTION THERE! Gotta go back to work, dear sir. Not all of us have all day to "complain from the sidelines" I'll support my President, giving MILLIONS healthcare who never had it. PERIOD. Economy up! Jobs up! Stock Market up! How soon you (choose to) forget where we were just 6 short years ago. How convenient!
Andy Rotter January 27, 2014 at 02:18 PM
stock market is up because the govt is buying bonds like they are going out of style. The govt does not have the right to make some people pay for other's healthcare. The economy is up inspite of bo's agenda not because of it.You cannot list one thing he has accomplished that has caused any kind of uptick in the economy
VoiceInThe Desert January 27, 2014 at 04:23 PM
Healthcare! Like it or not. You are of the same ilk as the hordes who protested Social Security back in the day. Yet, years later, of that same crowd....not ONE PERSON returned a check! Ha. Greatest country on Earth. Pay up or shut up. ~OR~ stick to tennis, rich man!
Andy Rotter January 27, 2014 at 04:35 PM
Why is it that the left is so hateful and filled with vitriol. You cast many aspersions. Your ignorance preceeds you.
VoiceInThe Desert January 27, 2014 at 07:50 PM
Assumption again Mr. R. Who said I was "left" or "right" or ANYTHING? And vitriol? The TeaBaggers wrote the BOOK on that one. Why is it when reason escapes someone...they pull out the "THEY'RE so angry" card?? Out of real reasoned discourse, are we? And how is calling me ignorant not vitriolic in and of itself? Pot meet kettle!
