Orozco Attacks Nestande Support on Mobile Home Rent Controls

State Assembly challenger Mark Orozco says incumbent Brian Nestande cannot justify his vote for AB 317.

42nd Assembly District Candidate Mark Orozco, D-Beaumont, is calling out Assemblyman Brian Nestande, R-Palm Desert, for his support of AB 317.

AB 317, if passed by the State Senate, would exempt mobile homes from rent control ordinances if the mobile home is not the owner’s only residence.  A similar bill, AB 761, died in the Senate Judiciary Committee in 2009.

Nestande voted for AB 317 when it went to the Assembly floor in late January.

“There is no justification that, in the present foreclosure housing crisis, some elected officials voted for AB 317,” Orozco said in a press release. “The only conclusion that I can draw is that some Assemblymembers, from both sides of the aisle, rather than voting for the interest for their constituents that elected them, they instead side with big developers that most likely funded their campaigns.  As the old saying goes, "just follow the money.”

A request for comment from Assemblyman Nestande has not been answered as of press time.
