The online auction opens July 28 and closes between Aug. 10 and Aug. 12.

A BMW police motorcycle, a fire truck and several air compressors are among the items the city of Palm Desert has put up for public auction.

The city put up the items for sale on municibid.com, a government auctions website.

The auction opened Thursday and continues through mid August. Some auctions will close Aug. 10 and other will end on Aug.12, according to the website.

The online auction allows cities to get a higher price for items, according to the company’s founder and CEO Greg Berry.

“Taxpayer demand and tightened budgets require government agencies to look for new ways of increasing non-tax revenue, municibid is an easy way to earn substantially more money for surplus at no cost to the agency,’’ Berry said.
