Republican Assemblyman's Bill Mirrors Obama Policy

Assemblyman Brian Nestande, R-Palm Desert, introduces bill that would require state agencies to identify, review and simplify regulations that inhibit economic growth.

California Assemblyman Brian Nestande, R-Palm Desert, introduced a bill Monday that would simplify regulations that inhibit economic growth -- mimmicking a policy introduced by President Barack Obama last month.

"President Obama issued an executive order last month ordering federal agencies to streamline regulations and eliminate rules that stifle economic growth, and California should do the same," Nestande said.

"We need to streamline regulations that are rational and eliminate those that harm job creation without providing a genuine public safety benefit. Assembly Bill 425 directs state agencies to do just that."

The bill would require all state entities that issue regulations to review them and repeal or report any that may be duplicative, old or inconsistent with other statutes, he said.

The measure also requires state agencies to identify and report any regulations that appear to deter economic growth in the state.
