Road Work Begins On Cook Street

Construction began Monday on a $2.5 million project that will improve Cook Street between Country Club and Hovely Lane East.

Work on the drainage and intersection improvements is aimed to revitalize traffic flow and upgrade drainage, according to city spokesman David Hermann.

The project is expected to last until December, Hermann said.

Some lanes on Cook Street will be closed in both directions and traffic will be delayed. Motorists were asked to use alternate routes such as .

The project was among the last to receive funds from the city's redevelopment agency.

Palm Desert's RDA is under from ABX1 26, which eliminates redevelopment agencies and creates successor agencies; and ABX1 27, which states that agencies that make annual payments into the General Fund -- to the tune of $1.7 billion collectively -- are exempt from elimination.
