Ruiz Supporters Tout Events Aug. 22, Sept. 7 in Pass Area

Supporters of Rep. Raul Ruiz, D-Palm Desert, and power brokers who want to spend time with him are touting his scheduled appearance at three events in the San Gorgonio Pass on Aug. 22 and Sept. 7.

Ruiz, who defeated incumbent Mary Bono Mack in the 36th Congressional District in November 2012, is the expected guest speaker at a Pass Economic Development Association luncheon on Thursday Aug. 22 at Morongo Casino Resort and Spa.

The luncheon is scheduled from 11:30 a.m. to 1 p.m., according to organizers. Cost is $25 per person and reservations are required.

"We are honored to have Congressman Ruiz join us to give us a briefing on what is happening in Washington, D.C.," Pass EDA chairman Jeff Davis said. "This is his first appearance with Pass EDA, and we appreciate his service on our behalf in Congress."

Davis has been general manager and chief engineer of the San Gorgonio Pass Water Agency since 2005. Prior to that, he was founding director of the Water Resources Institute at Cal State San Bernardino.

To make reservations online, e-mail Cheryle Rasmussen at
crasmussen@sgpwa.com or call her at (951) 845-2577.

The congressman's schedule will be tight that afternoon. He is expected to host the forum "Keeping Our Commitment to Veterans" from 1 p.m. to 3 p.m. Aug. 22 at Beaumont City Hall.

"Representative Ruiz invites you to join him for a special forum for Veterans and their families, active duty personnel and their families, and Veterans Service Organizations to discuss the pressing issues for the Veterans community and how we can join together to improve the lives of Veterans throughout the 36th Congressional District," Ruiz' staff in Palm Springs said in an announcement.

Organizers of the veterans forum request RSVPs through Ruiz' Palm Springs district office at ca36do@mail.house.gov or (760) 424-8888.

On Sept. 7, Ruiz is the announced keynote speaker for a fundraising dinner in honor of the late Roman J. Dominguez of Beaumont.

"All funds raised from the dinner will be awarded as a scholarship to a distinguished Beaumont Unified High School student graduating in 2014," event organizers said. "The student will be selected based on his or her achievements in either healthcare or in the Armed Services."

The event is scheduled 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. Saturday Sept. 7 at Beaumont Presbyterian Church, 702 Euclid Ave. Cost is $20 per person for adults and $10 for children.
