Supervisor Benoit Announces Appointment Vacancies

Riverside County Supervisor John J. Benoit is seeking residents interested in serving on county councils, boards, and commissions.

There are vacancies on each of the following: Community Facilities District Special Tax Review Board, County/City Arroyo-Watershed Committee, County Free Library Advisory Committee, Indio Hills Community Council, In-Home Supportive Services Advisory Committee, Mecca Community Council, Mental Health Board, North Shore Community Council, Palo Verde Cemetery District Board of Trustees, Ripley Community Council, Riverside County Regional Park and Open-Space District Advisory Commission and Workforce Investment Board. Alternate seats are available on the Children & Families Commission (First 5 Riverside) and Solid Waste Management Advisory Council.

“An important part of my job is to recruit and appoint Fourth District residents to many diverse boards, councils and commissions,” said Supervisor John J. Benoit. “These appointed positions are wonderful opportunities to serve and shape your community.”

Most appointees serve without compensation although some are eligible for mileage reimbursement, as several meeting sites and hearing locations are in western Riverside County.

Some boards have special qualifications. The preferred appointee for the In-Home Supportive Services (IHSS) Advisory Committee will be a current or former recipient of IHSS services. The Mental Health Board is seeking an appointee with a close family member that is receiving or has received mental health services.

The Community Facilities District Special Tax Review Board interprets and makes determinations on special taxes for each community facilities district established by the county. This technical work necessitates that appointees have five years of professional experience in the State of California as a certified public accountant, public accountant, licensed real estate broker, attorney or a property appraiser accredited by a nationally recognized professional organization. Board members are compensated at a flat per diem rate of $300 and other expenses.

Members of the County/City Arroyo-Watershed Committee protect water quality and wildlife, study recreational trail connectivity and provide recommendations for land use and Santa Ana River watershed management of arroyos in and adjacent to the City of Riverside.
