College of the Desert Offering Emergency Medical Responders Course

A course for emergency medical responders will be offered at College of the Desert from Dec. 16 to Jan. 8, school officials announced Tuesday.

The course cost is $475, including textbook, supplies, and lab fee. A mandatory information session is scheduled 6 p.m. Monday Dec. 16 in the Public Safety Academy, Room 18 on the Palm Desert campus.

Classes begin at 6 p.m. Tuesday Dec. 17 and they are scheduled at the same location: the Public Safety Academy, Room 18 on the Palm Desert campus.

The class schedule includes eight weeknight classes, four hours each, and three Saturday classes, nine hours each. To view the full schedule click here or see the image attached to this report.

"The course prepares participants to provide emergency pre-hospital assessment and care for patients of all ages with a variety of medical conditions and traumatic injuries," College of the Desert officials said.

"Areas of study include an introduction to emergency medical services systems, roles and responsibilities of EMRs, anatomy and physiology, medical emergencies, trauma, and special considerations for working in the pre-hospital setting."

A payment plan is available to cover course costs and arrangements must be made through the PaCE Office at the Westfield Mall.
