COD to Honor Graduating Student Nurses

Pinning ceremony signifies graduation for 23 potential nurses.

College of the Desert’s Health Sciences Division will honor twenty-three students at a pinning ceremony on Friday, at 4 p.m. in the McCallum Theatre in Palm Desert.

COD’s pinning ceremony is a time-honored rite of passage that goes back more than 150 years to the Nightingale School of Nursing in London. The school’s legendary founder, Florence Nightingale, honored her graduating students with a pin as a symbol of excellence.

The vocational nursing students will be pinned in recognition of having completed the one-year training course that leads to the Licensed Vocational Nursing exam. The student class speakers are Mindi Rodriguez and Christian Flores. Representing the faculty is Assistant Nursing Professor Betty Baluski. Presenting the pins to the students will be Monica Pryzgocki, Lead VN faculty.
