Since January 2001, COD-PSA has been filling an increasingly important public safety need for the Coachella Valley and surrounding communities. From Banning to Blythe and from Yucca Valley to El Centro, COD’s PSA is an invaluable asset for training our peace officers, firefighters and emergency medical technicians.

Bond Measure B was instrumental in moving this program forward through construction of two state of-the-art training facilities that opened their doors in 2009. The City of Palm Desert Public Safety Academy at COD on the Palm Desert Campus is a beautiful facility that creates a very positive learning environment and the Roy Wilson Fire Training Facility located in Thousand Palms makes advanced firefighting training a reality.

-More-

Contributing to the success of COD’s peace officer training program has been the support provided by the Riverside County Sheriff, all local and regional chiefs of police and the California Highway Patrol. This long history of professional collaboration has the one united goal of providing the Coachella Valley with the best possible training for our future reserve and full-time peace officers.

Similar collaborative efforts between COD, CALFIRE, Riverside County Fire and the Palm Springs and Cathedral City Fire Departments have resulted in a continually evolving and progressive fire program including the upcoming Basic Firefighter Academy in Fall 2012 which will be offered for the first time at the new Roy Wilson Training Center in Thousand Palms.

Current Fire Technology and State Fire Marshall certified classes are popular among students pursuing certificates and degrees, as well as local active, reserve and volunteer firefighters looking to sharpen their professional skills. COD’s single semester Emergency Medical Technician (EMT) course is always filled to capacity. EMT’s are certified to recognize and treat patients experiencing traumatic injuries and medical conditions in both field and clinical settings.

Public Safety Academy Director Chris Madigan would like to extend a warm invitation to the COD Board of Trustees, COD staff, faculty, alumni, and family and friends of cadets, as well as interested members of the public. A catered reception in PSA Classroom 19 will immediately follow the ceremony.
