The new football coach for Palisades Charter High School has wasted no time to get acclimated to the program and says he's "very excited" to be taking over a team with many key elements installed from his predecessor, Coach Perry Jones.
Tim Hyde, former defensive coordinator at Crespi Carmelite High School in Encino, came to Pali High the week of Jan. 20. In the 2012 match-up, Crespi defeated Pali High 70-8.

"They've got talent," Hyde, 41, told Patch about Pali High. "There are a lot of kids who can run."
He noted he would not have left Crespi unless Pali High was a place he really wanted to be, and, as stated in Howard Kern's blog post in November, parents and fans are hoping he installs a new, exciting offense and a hard-hitting, fast-paced defense.

"Palisades is awesome," Hyde added. "You're right by the water and near Division I L.A. city football. They win in every single sport. With my background and the championships I've been around, now I go to the Palisades to have some fun."
Since getting hired Hyde's been working on campus, having football practices. He said he's already installed a basic defense for next year's Dolphins squad, with a couple coverages and couple of fronts.
"We have a lot of offense," Hyde said. "We are going to be wide open-ish, a hybrid of a multitude of things."
Hyde's been coaching for 18 years - 10 in college and eight at the varsity high school level. He's coached a defensive end to all american status in 2005, 2007 and 2010. At Crespi, his defensive end was the league defensive most valuable player and two of his players were All-CIF PAC5, and my safety earned second team, all state.
He hails from Redondo Beach and graduated in 1989 from Redondo Union High School, highlighting his early football prowess there as team captain in 1988.
As defensive coordinator at College of the Desert in Palm Desert from 2002 to 2005, Hyde said he built a team that previously went from 3-27 and then took them to a bowl game in 2004 for the 1st time in 10 years. Next, he became the defensive line coach at El Camino College in Torrance and helped them win the state championship in 2006, defeating top-ranked San Francisco City, finishing ranked second in the country. In 2007, Hyde helped El Camino win the conference championship and his defensive end was named the defensive player of the year and the top-ranked player by rivals.com.
In a quick east coach stint, Hyde was the defensive coach at Marblehead High School, located on the north shore outside of Boston, MA, and took the team to the state title game for the first time in the school's 100-plus year history.
In 2010 and 2011, Hyde was defensive coordinator at Ventura College helped the team win the Beach Bowl, finishing fifthin SoCal rankings (25th in the U.S.). In 2011, he said Ventura led the state in tackles for loss was ranked second in sacks in that two-year period. Also in 2011, his rush defense was the second best in school's history.
So what's next for Hyde at Pali High? He said former Coach Jones has been a "tremendous resource" getting him acquainted with the campus and football team.
"These kids are not scared to work and in this day in age when I organize a practice at night and no kids miss, that’s a tremendous compliment to these kids," he said.
"We’re planning to get a little spring football in and we're out of school the first week of June," Hyde said. "We’ve got a couple QBs and we are going to be in some of the biggest tourneys in Southern California."
There will be passing leagues set up with individual schools in the summer, and Hyde noted that four of the six coaches on the varisty staff come from the Pac 5. One is a coach he brought from Crespi and two are from Notre Dame High School. Hyde noted he also recruited two ex-players who played for him in Palm Desert, adding they are two of the best players he's ever coached.
Coming over from strictly focusing on the defensive side of things, Hyde reiterated he's very excited about the Dolphins' offensive potential.
"I'm lucky as can be walking into Palisades with two quarterbacks who can throw the ball all over the place," he said. "I've watched enough football film in my days to know what works and what doesn't work and what we'll be successful at. We’ve built offense around the talents, and we have a lot of talent in the Palisades."
