New Director for The Academy of PD Presbyterian Church

Veteran teacher and administrator Evelyn Clancy joins local private school

Evelyn Clancy of Scotts Valley, CA, has accepted the position of Director of The Academy of Palm Desert Community Presbyterian Church, and takes the school into its second year.

Clancy most recently served as the Director of Student Services for Scotts Valley Unified School District, and prior to that was Program Director for SELPA/Student Services for the Pajaro Valley Unified School District. She has been an Academic Director/Principal and Teacher for both public and private schools during her tenure in education, and earned dual Master’s Degrees in Educational Administration and Special Education.

“The Academy is so fortunate to have the opportunity to bring on such an experienced educator and administrator like Evelyn,” said Doug Garrard, Pastor of Palm Desert Community Presbyterian Church. “Evelyn joins Cristy Harshaw, Director of the Primary School, to form an outstanding leadership team that oversees a wonderfully gifted and dedicated group of experienced teachers.”

“One of my hopes as a leader is to instill a love of learning in my staff and students, as I share my own passion for learning with them,” said Clancy. “I feel there is a need for compassionate, strong and dedicated leaders who are excited about working with children.”

The Academy became an accredited institution this past spring – an accomplishment rarely garnered by a school in its first year. The expansion to add a 6th Grade class also shows The Academy’s successes since opening in August of 2011.

“There are so many exciting things in store for the children enrolled in The Academy as we move into our second year,” added Garrard. “The Staff, a new 6th Grade class, and our first full year as an accredited school are creating so much momentum right now, and the church is thrilled to see so many positive wheels in motion.”

The Academy is now accepting enrollment for the 2012-2013 academic year, with class ratios averaging 12:1. This fully credentialed school offers classes ranging from Preschool through 6th Grade.
