Palm Desert Students To Compete In San Diego Robotics Competition

Thirty students from Palm Desert Charter Middle School will compete Saturday at the University of San Diego.

Thirty students from will compete Saturday in the Regional Botball Tournament at the University of San Diego.

The students, who will be accompanied by teacher Reggie Clark and several parents, have been preparing for months for the tournament.

“They are so excited to get their robots down there competing when it counts,’’ Clark said. “They have to have their robotics programmed and powered up.”

The robotics class has been preparing through the Botball Education Robotics program.

For the past three weeks, the group has been staying after school at least three hours a week.

“Prior to that in January was about two hours for two days,’’ he said. “After school I have parents that help me.”

Parents have been a big part of fundraising for the trip. The students arrive Friday night in San Diego and compete all day Saturday, he said.

He said he hopes the tournament will teach his students teamwork.

“I’m teaching these kids to be gracious and humble,’’ he said.
