UCR to Offer Master Gardener Program

Local residents are invited to join the UC's community based gardening programs

UCR Riverside's Palm Desert Campus is offering a program unique to the Coachella Valley -- a Master Gardener Program for those who like to get their hands dirty while helping the community.

As part of the University of California Outreach, this program is open to anyone regardless of experience or skill level. The program is being tailored to address the landscaping needs of the desert.

According to UCR spokesman Sean Nealon, classes will meet three times per month from September through February with over 50 hours of instruction from UC specialists, advisors and industry professionals.

Following the program, a community service element is involved.  Those who complete the Master Gardener Program will be asked to volunteer a minimum of 50 hours the first year, and 25 hours per year following.
