Artists Promote 5K 'Run with Los Muertos' Friday Nov. 1 in Coachella

Artists are promoting a 5K "Run with Los Muertos" on Nov. 1 in Coachella, an evening event that will feature live music, neon lights, burning candles, painted faces, and a Los Muertos procession.

The program is scheduled to begin at 7 p.m. and the race start is planned at 9 p.m. Participants are urged to run in costume, T-shirts to honor loved ones who have passed, or glow-in-the-dark gear.

Organized by the Date Farmers and the non-profit Raices, the event is billed as "the first of its kind in the Coachella Valley" and it "promises to be a magical evening."

Here's more from the event's website:

"On Day of The Dead join hundreds of runners and spectators from throughout Southern California for an evening of music, art, remembrance and celebration. Run on your own or with a team in honor of your muerto or passed loved one. . . .

"The first 150 people to register will have the name of their muerto or loved one listed on the limited edition Date Farmers designed event T-shirt. Act fast to secure your slot!"

Entry fees are $28 per person and $250 per team of 10. Fees include 1 limited edition Date Farmer's designed T-shirt and 1 post run beverage (Beer 21+) per runner.

The 5K is planned on a flat course through historic downtown Coachella with aid/water stations at Mile 1 and Mile 2. Coachella City Hall's 6th street frontage will serve as the start and finish line.

Awards will be presented to the top three finishers in each age division and team division, according to organizers.
