Aztec Baseball Gets Another Playoff Win

Brian Serven throws a 3-hitter, to defeat visiting El Segundo

Brian Serven was near perfect in a 7-1 CIF playoff win over El Segundo on Tuesday at Aztec Field.

Serven gave up just three hits, while striking out seven without walking a batter. But the junior right hander admits he had lots of help.

"They were hitting the ball hard,"Serven said after the game, "but it was going right to fielders."

After retiring the first dozen El Segundo hitters, Serven was touched for two of the three hits he allowed. Austin Brasher smaked a single to lead off the 5th inning, and two batters later, a booming double by Mike Pagan brought in the only run that Serven would allow.

The Aztec Bats did thier usual early damage, keyed by a 4-run second inning that would chase El Segundo starter Ryan Pordes.   Sophomore catcher Brody Kato smacked a 2-run double during the 5-hit frame.

Senior Brian Serven added a two-run single in the 6th.

With the win, Palm Desert advances to the Division 4 quarterfinals this Friday at Anaheim's Savanna High School.
