Long time Los Angeles Dodger standout Steve Garvey has been fired from his community relations position with the team, ending a 30-year relationship.
Yahoo sports is reporting that Garvey was let go for continuing to pursue ownership of the major league franchise after being asked to shelve ownership plans.
According to reports, Garvey had been asked by the club to stop efforts to take over the club from embattled current owner Frank McCourt. Garvey had continued to rally community support for his ownership bid, including recent appearances on radio and television in the last two weeks.
The 62 year old Indian Wells resident is the father of 2011 Palm Desert High grad Ryan Garvey. The younger Garvey is committed to playing baseball at University of Southern California this fall, and was selected by Philadelphia in last month's Major League draft.
