UPDATE: DVL Sends Track Athletes to CIF Regionals

Desert Valley League records were being shattered in numbers, while and runners struggled at Palm Springs High and the end of the DVL track & field finals.

Two Xavier Prep girls won their events: sophomore Chanel Monica was the winner of the girls 400m in a time of 1:01.27, edging out Palm Desert’s Alex Blalock by six-tenths of a second.

Blalock’s effort would be the only top three finish by any Palm Desert athlete on
Thursday.

Xavier Prep Senior Karina Castaneda took top honors in the girls 3200m in 12:08.49, a full 20 seconds ahead of her closest competition.

Boys 300m hurdles: Jonte Turner (Indio)  39.18

Girls 300m hurdles: Mayim Lee (Cathedral City)  46.74

Girls 800m: Megan Huebner (La Quinta)  2:15.93  (DVL record)

Boys 4x100m relay: Palm Springs High  42.76 (DVL record)

Girls 4x100m relay: Cathedral City High  50.34

Boys 4x400m relay: Indio High  3:25.40 (DVL Record)

Girls 4x400m relay: Indio High  4:08:43  (DVL Record)

Boys 1500m: Daniel Franz (Cathedral City)  4:27.83

Girls 1600m: Megan Heubner (La Quinta)   5:13:20

Boys 3200m: Evan Dougherty (La Quinta)  9:59.41

Boys triple jump: Quentin Taylor (Palm Springs)  42’-11.75”

Girls triple jump: Chantal Justice (La Quinta)   35’-5.00”

The winner in each event (plus at-large qualifiers that meet certain criteria) will qualify for the CIF prelims.  Palm Desert athletes will compete in Division III, while Xavier College Prep will be in Division IV. 

CIF Divisional Prelims are set for May 14th.
