The Astronomical Society of the Desert hosts these awe-inspiring, informative star parties. There are lots of high-end telescopes to look through and many volunteer experts to tell you more about the planets, stars and moon. This is a great family event.
The waxing gibbous Moon provides wonderfully detailed views for binoculars and telescopes as the Sun rises on the 60-mile wide crater Copernicus. Please bring a flashlight and warm clothing for cool evening conditions, and, if you can, binoculars for exploring the sky. We will provide large telescopes for your viewing.
Directions from the website: Go up Route 74 for 15.6 miles from the intersection of Highway 111 and Route 74 (Monterey Ave.) in Palm Desert. Turn left at the sign for the Sawmill Trailhead and Riverside County Disposal Station (Pinyon Flats Campground is on the right). This is 0.4 miles past the Sugarloaf Cafe. Follow this road until you reach the parking lot on the left hand side. We meet in the far end of this parking lot.
