Golf World Mourns Passing Of Classic Dolores Hope

Leaders of the Humana Challenge, formerly known as the Bob Hope Classic, remember Mrs. Hope, who died Monday at the age of 102.

Officials with the Humana Challenge, formerly known as the Bob Hope Classic, honored the passing of the comedian's wife, Dolores Hope, today in calling her a philanthropist in her own right.

Representatives said in a news release that they were saddened to learn of the passing of Mrs. Hope, who died Monday in Toluca Lake, Calif. at the age of 102. Hope was the widow of comedian and actor Bob Hope, whose name was tied to the Coachella Valley’s PGA TOUR tournament for 47 years.

The Hopes were also noted philanthropists, and even after Bob Hope’s death, Dolores Hope continued to support desert charities through her work with the tournament. Officials from the tournament emphasized that its charitable mission will continue despite Hope's passing.

“To think she was just Bob Hope’s wife is a mistake. She was a sharp, bright woman at all times. That may get lost when you are a celebrity’s wife. I think she wanted to keep (the tournament) very vibrant with Bob’s name.”

Hope was also involved in several other desert charities, including a stint as a board member at .

Stacey Johnson, CEO at the Living Desert, said in a statement that Hope will be missed.

"Dolores had a desire to make a difference in the world and she will be remembered for supporting the causes she believed in,'' Johnson said. "For so many of us at the Living Desert, in the Coachella Valley and around the world, Dolores was more than just Bob Hope's wife. She leaves behind a legacy of kindness, generosity and good will that not soon be forgotten.

"Our love, thoughts and prayers go out to the friends and family of Dolores Hope. Thanks - to you too, Dolores - for the memories."
