VIDEO: Djokovic Shrugs Off Pressure To Defend Indian Wells Title

Novak Djokovic says he tries to appreciate his spot as the No. 1 ranked tennis player, and that the BNP Paribas Open reminds him of his quick rise in 2011.

Novak Djokovic may be the No. 1 men's tennis player in the world, but he is not consciously seeking to defend any of his titles from last year -- including one at the BNP Paribas Open.

"I believe that the right mindset is to try be in that group of the players that is going to win that title and every year is different. I’m not trying to position myself as a defending champion,” Djokovic said in a press conference following a doubles match Friday.

Djokovic, who only cracked a smile a handful of times, added that he doesn't see himself as on top of the world.

"I still have the same daily routine, the same approach to my career," he said.

He also shrugged off pressure to grab a calendar Grand Slam by winning all four major tournaments this season. Djokovic claimed the first slam at the Australian Open in January.

"I think anyone who wins the Australian Open the first Grand Slam of the year has the eventual chance to win all four Grand Slams of the year," Djokovic said.

He added that he stays grounded by focusing on his opponents.

"There is always pressure and always expectation for someone who is a top player and (it is) something you can understand and accept. You have to deal with the pressure. You have to understand it, cherish it and accept it as a challenge and just try to take the best out of it and give the best in every match that you play," Djokovic said.

He is on track to face World No. 4 Andy Murray in the semi-finals at the BNP Paribas Open. Murray handed Djokovic his only loss of the season in the semi-finals in Dubai.
