Update 4:50 p.m. As the sun set on Day Three of the 2014 Humana Challenge in La Quinta, Patrick Reed remained top of the leader board with his third consecutive 63, placing him out front at 27 under par.
"The putter is hot," Reed told the Golf Channel on Saturday. "When the putter is hot, you are going to go low. When you have that type of confidence in your putter, it doesn't matter where on the green it is, I feel like it is going in the hole."
The 72-hole Humana Challenge takes place through Sunday at the Arnold Palmer and Jack Nicklaus Private Courses and La Quinta Country Club in La Quinta, Calif.
Posted 11:35 a.m. Heading into Saturday, Patrick Reed was top of the leader board for the 2014 Humana Challenge in La Quinta with back-to-back 63s and 18 under par in the first two days of competition.
"I felt I had little more confidence in my driver today," Reed told reporters Friday afternoon. "I was hitting my tee shots a lot better, compared
to yesterday. At least in the beginning. And it was a 63 today, but I felt like I left a couple shots out there.
"With that bogey I made on the second hole to start the day, I hit a great drive, felt like I hit a great pitching wedge, it landed, I would say a yard short of being on the front edge, and if it does that it's five feet, instead it ends up five feet off the green," Reed said.
Reed opened Thursday on PGA West's Arnold Palmer Private Course, and he played tree-lined La Quinta Country Club on Friday, the Associated Press reported.
He was headed back to PGA West on Saturday for a round on the Jack Nicklaus Private Course. The tournament ends Sunday on the Palmer course.
Also heading into Saturday:
- Brendon Todd was second at 16 under par
- Ryan Palmer was third at 15 under par
- Charley Hoffman was fourth at 14 under par
Saturday's third-round pairings for the Humana Challenge are available at: http://humanachallenge.com/Pairings. After Saturday's play, the field will be cut to the low 70 players plus ties for Sunday's final round.
