Teens, Disabled Team Up for Golf Tourney
The First Tee teams with Desert Arc to bring a day of golf to the developmentally disabled.
Teens from The First Tee of the Coachella Valley and clients of Desert Arc will team up for a day of golf Sunday in Palm Desert.
Eighteen teens from First Tee will team up with 36 clients of Desert Arc -- an organization for people with developmental disabilities -- for a nine-hole tournament, according to Chris Keener, Program Director for the local First Tee.
Keener says the event with Desert Arc, which is in its third year, is popular on both sides.

“We found a number of Desert Arc clients are golf fanatics,” Keener said. “So it was a natural for us to partner with them for this. Several First Tee members have played in this all three years, and they really look forward to it.”
The day will feature a pre-round golf clinic with an LPGA professional and caddies to escort the players around the nine-hole First Tee course in Palm Desert. The morning ends with a barbeque lunch and awards.

“We are giving out awards and keeping score, but there’s no first, second and third. Everyone gets a medal with a really cool commemorative logo,” Keener said.
