VIDEO: Novak Djokovic, Caroline Wozniacki Capture Titles at Indian Wells

Djokovic finishes a weekend of upsets as he first beat Roger Federer, then topples the world's No. 1 in the BNP Paribas Open finals.

It's official. Serbian star Novak Djokovic has turned the tennis world upside down.

Djokovic toppled the world's No. 1 ranked tennis player, Spain's Rafael Nadal, 4-6 6-3 6-2, Sunday afternoon in the BNP Paribas Open Men's Final at Indian Wells.

Djokovic, 23, has not lost in 2011, having captured the Australian Open in January. The BNP Paribas final is his 18th victory of the year.

Nadal dominated the first set, but his first-serve percentage dropped in the second set. The turning point for Djokovic took place during the ninth game of the second set, in which the players battled it out, bringing the game back to deuce five times, and ended with a Nadal error. The set went to Djokovic.

Momentum churned for Djokovic as he had an early lead during the final set, but he remained focused.

“I was trying convince myself to take one point at a time, and not think about what can happen or what could happen,  and I think it was the right attitude,” Djokovic said.

Earlier in the day, Djokovic’s apartment building neighbor, No. 1 ranked woman’s tennis player, Denmark’s Caroline Wozniacki defeated Marion Bartoli 6-1; 2-6; 6-3.

“We can learn from her consistency,” Djokovic said, “She deserves to be number one in the world, but beside that is a very nice girl, she actually gave me a rose yesterday.”

Djokovic smiled and said he is going to give Wozniacki 101 roses in return.

Djokovic will move up to No. 2 in the world rankings Monday following
his defeat of Roger Federer, and could threaten to take over the top
spot.
