Weekend High School Sports Recap

Palm Desert Girls soccer finally falls; Torres goes to State Finals.

The Palm Desert Girls soccer team saw their season end Thursday with a CIF quarterfinal loss to Desert Christian of Lancaster. The visiting Lady Knights scored with two minutes left to tie the score, and scored again just four minutes into overtime for the victory. 

Girls Basketball:  Indio lost to top seeded Harvard-Westlake 66-43 on Saturday in the Division 2A semifinals. 

Boys Basketball:  Palm Springs missed two shots in the final 12 seconds of overtime, falling 61-60 to La Canada in Friday night’s Division 3AA Semifinals.

Both the Palm Springs Boys and Indio girls are eligible for an at-large sport in the CIF- State playoffs.  

Boys Soccer: Desert Hot Springs defeated Rubidoux 2-1 on Friday, to move to the Division 6 semifinals.  The Golden Eagles host Crossroads High on Tuesday for a berth in the CIF championship game.

Coachella Valley lost 2-1 At Great Oak on Wednesday in the second round of the Division 2 playoffs. 

Wrestling:  La Quinta junior George Torres earned a place in the state championship meet after running up a 4-1 mark at the CIF Masters Meet on Saturday. The 112-pound wrestler is the only qualifier from the Coachella Valley.  The CIF State meet will be Friday and Saturday in Bakersfield.
