Summer Hours Begin at COD Street Fair, Living Desert

Both local attractions will kick it into summer mode beginning this weekend, on June 1.

As the temperatures rise around town and the seasonal crowds dissipate, some local organizations are adjusting their schedules.

Though the first day of Summer isn't until June 21, both the Living Desert and College of the Desert Street Fair will begin observing summer hours starting on Saturday, June 1, according to officials with the organizations.

During the months of June, July, August and September, the hours at COD's Alumni Association Street Fair will be shortened to 7 a.m. until noon.  What's more, the location will be changed for the summer, while improvements are made on campus.

"The popular weekend Street Fair will move across campus back to its original location for the summer season located on the south side of the campus, just north of Fred Waring Drive in Palm Desert," said Gene Marchu with the organization.  "The Street Fair is moving so a major solar panel installation can take place at its current site on the college campus."

The Living Desert will also adjust their hours for the months of June through September.  Summer hours there will be from 8 a.m. until 1:30 p.m., with the last admission happening at 1 p.m.

"Summer hours offer a great opportunity for visitors to take advantage of the extra hour in the early morning when wildlife is most active," Nyla Patzner with the Living Desert said in a news release Thursday.  "Before the heat of the day, many animals can be seen stretching, eating, and playing in the cooler morning temps."

The COD Street Fair offers free admission, while prices range from $8.75 to $17.75 for those 3 and older at The Living Desert.
