Desert Discovery Series Earns National Award

Palm Desert, Calif. – The Fountains at the Carlotta, 41505 Carlotta Drive, received a 2013 Watermark University Innovation Award for its Desert Discovery Series. The award was announced at a national meeting of senior living executives in Tucson, Arizona in May.

According to Vanessa Villalobos, Director of Community Life at the Palm Desert retirement community, the series of free monthly lectures is led by Kerry Berman of Desert Eco Tours. It is one of dozens of free classes available to residents and guests of The Fountains through Watermark University. Dedicated to promoting mind and body fitness for life, Watermark University is offered at 32 communities operated nationwide by Watermark Retirement Communities, including The Fountains at The Carlotta.

In the award-winning Desert Discovery Series, topics to date have included Native American and Pioneer History of the Coachella Valley, Natural and Renewable Energy Resources, Water and Agriculture in the Coachella Valley, and Native Desert Flowers, Plants and Trees. During a field trip on Friday May 10, 2013 a group of 13 residents toured the Coachella Valley Water District and learned how water is brought into valley homes and farms from the Colorado River.
